Known now as a day of patriotism and enjoying time off from work, the Fourth of July began the journey to becoming a quintessential American holiday in 1776, when the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.

Ahead of the Fourth of July, authorities urge caution with fireworks and sparklers, reminding the public to adhere to local restrictions for a safe holiday weekend. FOX 13's John Hopperstad shares cautionary tales about fireworks-related incidents.

From noon until dusk there will be activities and displays for children of all ages – including community groups, carnival rides, and a craft show. Live music will be playing throughout the evening starting at 5:00 p.m. with Across the Pond and ending with Grand Central Station at 7:30 p.m. The evening concludes with a fireworks display.
