The Krewe of Rex parade route has changed due to incoming severe weather and high winds, the New Orleans Police Department announced early Tuesday. Rex will roll at 9:30 from its traditional start location at Napoleon and Claiborne avenues. The krewe will travel down St. Charles Avenue to Calliope Street. The procession will end there.

Carnival season kicked off on January 6, and Krewe of Rex is set to roll on Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, March 4, at 9:30 a.m. With high winds expected, officials moved up the parade's start time. The parade will follow its traditional route until it reaches Jackson Avenue,

Rex King and Queen of Carnival held their traditional toasts as the parade made its way down the Uptown route. This year's Rex King of Carnival is Edward Howell Crosby, and his Queen is Miss Tatum Lady Reiss. Crosby toasted his queen at Pascal's Manale restaurant Uptown. The toast was previously held at Gallier Hall.
