If Walker Buehler had hit free agency after, say, the 2021 season when he posted a 2.47 ERA over 33 starts with the Dodgers, he likely would have commanded one of the biggest contracts for a pitcher in baseball history. That wasn’t the case. The 30-year-old’s first foray into the open market came at a much-different point in his career.

Starting pitcher Walker Buehler inked a one-year, $21.05 million deal with the Boston Red Sox in December.The 30-year-old righthander discussed his departure from the Los Angeles Dodgers with reporters during a Zoom call on Friday.

Walker Buehler signed with the Red Sox because he believes the club is primed for a breakout, and if the right-hander has his way, he won’t be coming to Boston alone.

Red Sox starter Walker Buehler is reportedly trying to recruit free agent third baseman Alex Bregman to join him at Fenway Park.

The Boston Red Sox missed the postseason for the third straight season after finishing with a record of 81-81 and coming in third place in the American League East. Although the Red Sox have had a few tough years,

"I think this team is ready to be able to compete in the division and in the whole league,” said Buehler, a free agent righthander who signed a one-year, $21.05 million deal with the Red Sox.

Walker Buehler will have a new look when he takes the mound for the first time in 2025. After spending the first eight seasons of his Major League Baseball career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Buehler will be donning a Red Sox uniform next season.

Buehler gets a $3.05 million signing bonus under the agreement announced Dec. 28 and a $15 million salary this year.
