Forecasters warned swimmers that many U.S. East Coast beaches will remain dangerous this weekend, as Erin became a post-tropical storm and moved from the U.S.

Strong winds and waves battered Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and dangerous rip currents threatened from the Carolinas to New England as Hurricane Erin made its way farther out to sea. The storm was forecast to cause possible coastal flooding into the weekend along the East Coast but was also expected to gradually lose strength.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Erin is now a post-tropical cyclone, according to the National Hurricane Center. Swimming at many U.S. East Coast beaches is likely to remain dangerous through the weekend. Around 5 p.m., the center of Hurricane Erin was located 375 miles southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
