Illinois judge declines Texas AG’s request to enforce arrest warrants in redistricting standoff
A judge in Illinois denied Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s request to enforce civil arrest warrants for the absent Texas House Democrats currently in Illinois, arguing the court does not have the jurisdiction to rule in the matter.
In response, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott threatened to try to remove the Democrats from the state Legislature and said some of them may even be "felons."
Texas Republicans are trying to reconvene the state Legislature to vote on redrawing congressional maps in their party's favor.
