Guards are the quarterback of Central Florida high school basketball teams, the floor captains who determine the pace and often the success of their squads. With the postseason upon us, we looked at schools in multiple counties and nominated 10 athletes for top guard in Central Florida high school boys basketball.

Comsewogue 73, West Babylon 67: Joe Perri scored eight of his 26 points in the fourth quarter to lead Comsewogue (6-13) in Suffolk IV. RJ Varland added 26 points and five rebounds and James Ward had seven points and 15 rebounds. Modesta Tapia scored 32 points for West Babylon (6-13).

The regular season is over and the playoffs are here. Not surprisingly, most of the players on The Morning Call’s Fab 15 list of scoring leaders in local boys basketball, have more games to play. Before we get to the list,

Dearborn Heights Robichaud 48, Melvindale 40: Cornelius Jenkins led Dearborn Heights Robichaud (11-5, 8-3 Western Wayne) with 20 points and five assists. Dezmond Tolliver and Khalil Hopkins each had 15 points for Robichaud. Terrell Crawford scored 17 for Melvindale (10-7, 6-6 Western Wayne).

The Alabama high school basketball season is officially into the postseason as area tournaments kick off around the state. Area tournaments can get started on Thursday and go through Wednesday for Class 1A-6A. Class 7A, with its lack of sub regional play, gets its area tournaments start on Feb.5 and goes through the 8th.
