Total Pro Sports on MSNCam Johnson Opens Up On His Time With Jordi Fernandez And The Brooklyn Nets Amid Fresh Start In DenverAfter spending three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets, Cam Johnson is beginning a new chapter in his NBA journey. The Nets traded Johnson to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for forward Michael Porter Jr.
The hard work was finally rewarded after Johnson’s junior year, when he skyrocketed by several inches. He took off as a prospect, leading to his stealth commitment to Pitt. He graduated there in three years, then got his master’s degree in sports administration from UNC in two. In basketball, his IQ served him equally well.
The Denver Nuggets have been one of the most active teams during this offseason. Major changes began way before their season ended, when they chose to fire championship-winning head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth right before the start of the NBA Playoffs.
“I want to win,” new Nuggets forward Cam Johnson said Friday at Ball Arena during an introductory news conference. “At the end of the day, I want to win. I want to win a championship. And obviously, we have the pieces to do it here. And that’s what I’m most excited about.”
This emerged as the net sum of Denver’s two trades: Porter, Saric and a distant first-round pick out; Johnson and Valanciunas in, with $12.3 million saved in 2025-26 salary. However, one of their biggest moves might still be in the future. While the Nuggets have signed Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr. to give the team some help on the wing, they could still use a true backup point guard, which is where Russell Westbrook comes in.
