Around 10,800 Austin Energy customers remained without power just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. The outages, which previously affected well over 24,000 customers, were caused by high winds ripping through the city.
Power outages across Austin ongoing due to extreme wind, damage to system
Some of those wind gusts knocked out power in areas of the city, according to an Austin Energy spokesperson. Two notable outages – one near Clayton Lane and U.S. 290 and another near Hollybluff Street and Bluff Bend Drive – were confirmed by officials to be wind-related.
Over 31,000 Austin residents without power as winds barrel through Texas
Over 31,000 people are without power as a result of more than 140 active outages at 4 p.m., according to the Austin Energy outage map. The map also says there are 68 hazards in the city as a wind advisory remains in place across the Central Texas region.
