If you use Android apps on Windows, you're likely using the Windows Subsystem for Android. However, Microsoft has announced that they are sunsetting the service in 2025.

Microsoft announced the end of Windows Subsystem for Android on Windows 11 earlier this year, marking the end of Android apps and games in the Microsoft Store.

And now Microsoft has announced the next step: it’s pulling the plug on the Windows Subsystem for Android next year.

Microsoft is pulling support for the Windows Subsystem for Android, a Windows 11 feature first released in October of 2021 that allowed Windows PCs to run Android apps alongside native Windows apps.

Microsoft has updated the Windows Subsystem for Android in Windows 11 to make telemetry collection optional and announced an upgrade to Android 12.1.

The Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) is an optional Windows 11 feature that allows you to run Android apps within Microsoft’s desktop operating system.

To install the Google Play Store on Windows 11, you first need to uninstall Windows Subsystem for Android. Then, compile and install the modified Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) on your computer.

You need Windows 11 telemetry turned on to get Insider Preview builds anyway, so that probably not that big of a deal for anyone looking to experiment with the Android Subsystem for Windows.
