PPPoE is sometimes seen, particularly in VDSL or DOCSIS. The PPPoE and PPPoA protocols are implementations of Point to Point Protocol over either ATM or Ethernet.

There are some tunneling protocols, such as the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and Layer 2 Tuneling Protocol, that can carry Ethernet frames over IP.

The ISDN B channels will typically utilize a point-to-point protocol such as HDLC (High-Level Data Link Control) or PPP frames at Layer 2.
