Starting with iOS 16, Apple allows you to mark text messages as unread in the Messages app on your iPhone.

Because "iPhone mark unread" is not an option for text messages, you will need to work around by either forwarding the text to yourself or making a note to review it in your Calendar.

Launch Messages. Tap and hold on the message you want to mark as unread. When the resulting menu appears, tap on the Mark as Unread command.

Open the Messages app on your iPhone running iOS 16 and find the chat that you want to mark as unread, but don’t tap it. Swipe the chat from left to right and tap the new button that appears.
