Sega has so far not done a good job in creating 3D 'Sonic' games. Fans gave it a try, and created what is arguably the best 3D 'Sonic' experience available to fans of the franchise.

Nearly everything in the fan-built Sonic game has been made from scratch by its developers.

Sonic 's next 3D outing has been discussed by Sonic Team. Studio head Takashi Iizuka said that the project will aim to "evolve" the 3D games in the same way Sonic 4 has for 2D entries.
