Usually slide projector bulbs emit much less UV than a fluorescent. I use these things in my day job and they are simply quartz-tungsten halogen bulbs and they start (very weakly) around 350 nm or so.

An automatic digitizer can make quick work of your collection, and this build from [rbwood53] will do just that. The digitizizer is based on a Kodak carousel slide projector.
