Kolkata: The convict in the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case, Sanjay Roy, is likely to work as a gardener initially in Presidency Correctional Home where he is lodged, an official said on Wednesday.

Sentencing Roy to life in prison, a Kolkata court said Monday that the case didn’t meet the criteria to be classified as ‘rarest of rare’, and therefore, did not merit death penalty.

Multiple allegations and theories surfaced after the rape and murder of a 31-year-old resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Aug 9 last year. Judge Anirban Das of Sealdah sessions court addressed these theories in a 172-page judgment,

The CBI is likely to file the appeal against the Sealdah court order by Friday with detailed arguments in favour of capital punishment, they said.
