UFC 318 was already shaping up to deeply tied to Louisiana, and main event fighter Dustin Poirier said Wednesday that Lil Wayne will walk him out to his final battle at the Smoothie King Center.
After hinting at the possibility in recent weeks, Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC) confirmed Wednesday that rap legend Lil Wayne will accompany him during his final UFC walk. Lil Wayne's presence won't deter Poirier from sticking with his classic walkout music, however. Poirier will still walk to James Brown's "The Boss" as he long has.
It isn't just any fight, either. It's the final fight of a legendary MMA career for Poirier and a UFC run that spans a decade-plus with an extensive resume of legendary names few can duplicate, including this weekend's trilogy with Max Holloway that headlines UFC 318 in Poirier's home state of Louisiana
UFC 318 goes down on Saturday from Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. In the main event, Louisiana legend Dustin Poirier will take a second crack at the symbolic BMF title when he faces Max Holloway.
During his media day interviews on UFC 318 fight week, Dustin Poirier confirmed that the dream scenario that he pitched for his final walk out is set to happen on Saturday night. Anyone who has been watching ‘The Diamond’ for some time knows that his walk out song of choice is the iconic James Brown track, ‘The Boss’.
Daniel Cormier has two people in mind to put the BMF belt around the UFC 318 winner. Max Holloway (26-8 MMA, 22-8 UFC) defends his BMF title in a trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier (30-9 MMA, 22-8 UFC) on Saturday (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
