Minecraft: Java Edition is the original version of the game for computers, while Bedrock is a newer version available on nearly every device.

With the release of The Wild update, Minecraft editions - Java and Bedrock - will be bundled into one purchase for Windows PC players.

For the past few years, Mojang has been working hard to bridge the gap between Minecraft Bedrock and Java Editions. Previously, they felt entirely different, despite having most features in common.

While the Bedrock Edition does have add-ons, it features more paid content to add to the game, whereas the Java version lets you install mods (such as texture packs) for free.
