White Sox left-hander Martin Perez’s major-league future was up in the air as he walked off the mound April 18 against the Red Sox with a left flexor strain. Perez sat in the visitors’ clubhouse at Fenway Park, listening to trainer James Kruk, who said: ‘‘Hey, Martin, at some point maybe you’re going to get surgery.’’

CHICAGO -- Jake Rogers will be behind the plate for Detroit Tigers rookie right-hander Troy Melton on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers (69-52) and White Sox (44-76) play at 2:10 p.m. Eastern time at Rate Field. Melton, who was moved to the bullpen at the trade deadline, wil be making his first start since July 28.
