In the early days of this year’s season, torpedo bats have become all the rage for big-league hitters. And now, they are showing up in almost every big-league clubhouse.

The Torpedo Bat Era isn’t even a week old. But in the short time since Yankees play-by-play man Michael Kay pointed out the team’s new, misshapen sticks on live TV, Torpedo Bat Mania has consumed the baseball world.

The newest innovation in baseball, the bat has a seemingly inflated barrel that is thickest and heaviest where the player most frequently makes contact.

Of note is how D-backs pitchers handled the five Yankees who are known to be using the torpedo bat: Anthony Volpe and Paul Goldschmidt, who bat righty, and Jazz Chisholm Jr., Cody Bellinger and Austin Wells, who bat lefty.

Yankees great CC Sabathia says we shouldn't be so quick to credit the Yankees early success to new torpedo bats, but rather the Brewers' subpar pitching.
